Net Replacement Film: Benefits and Advantages

It is a film that replaces bale nets in the latest generation combination round baler machines or combo balers. It works on fusion balers like the McHale Fusion 3+ and adds an enhanced air barrier to improve oxygen barrier and silage quality.

BalingTwine net replacement filmIt also reduces waste because it is easier to sort for recycling than the older style netwrap, which can have its main threads broken during handling, causing fodder to protrude.

Better Oxygen Barrier

Using BalingTwine net replacement film on your bales instead of the older net wrap style offers better oxygen barrier properties for more extraordinary conservation efforts in the bale. It also helps to prevent mould growth and preserves the nutrient content of your silage bales. Using net replacement film also allows you to use less silage wrap, saving money and making the overall process more efficient.

Our range of net replacement films is made to suit the newer generation of combination baler/wrapper machines (such as Krone Komprima, Goweil G5040 Kombi and McHale Fusion 3 plus). Designed for ‘film on film’ application in a two-step process, they act as an underlayer that adds strength to the outer wrapping films.

It results in a more consistent shape and finish to your round bales, compared to the older netwrap. It can help reduce issues in transport, as misshapen bales may not compress properly and can cause problems with the fermentation process.

The additional layer of film also strengthens the outside of your bales, reducing the chances of punctures and tears during handling and transportation. It also protects from vermin and other external factors damaging your bales. This added layer of protection will also increase the lifespan of your bales, reducing the need to replace your silage wrap more frequently.

Better Durability

Bales wrapped with net replacement film tend to stay together better than a traditional non-film wrap so that they can hold up well under heavy handling. That means they can be moved around a lot, which is necessary if you are using them for silage, and they can also stand up to weather conditions like rain, hail or snow.

According to the invention, bales wrapped with the net replacement film have a significantly lower air content than bales wrapped with conventional netting. It may result in a considerably higher nutritional quality of the resulting silage or other compressed, bulk material. In the case of grass, it is a particular advantage that this allows for a shorter storage time without compromising on the desired quality and yield.

In addition, using net replacement film saves on baling time since it can replace the need for round bale net wrap in the baling process. It is particularly important when used with the latest fleet of combination balers/wrappers. It is also possible that the use of net replacement film allows for a smaller number of layers of protective wrapping film to be required in a subsequent wrapping process.

The present inventors have found that several film layers within the range of 2-10 are generally suitable to achieve a satisfactory balance between the baling speed and the protection offered. It is a further object of the invention that the application of net replacement film can be made to achieve a substantially improved shape retention or compression of the bale, which may improve the quality of the resulting silage or other compressive bulk material.

Easier to Remove

In addition to reducing silage loss, net replacement film saves time by eliminating the need for round bale net wrap. Made specifically to suit the latest fleet of combination balers/wrappers, it allows the entire wrapping process to be completed in one machine, saving you time and effort.

Alternatively known as barrel wrap, the film is less elastic than the regular net and, therefore, holds the bale more tightly, further compressing and improving energy and nutrient content in the bales. The tighter wrap also helps slow air movement and increases the oxygen barrier, aiding a more thorough fermentation and better silage quality.

Bales wrapped in BalingTwine net replacement film are also more durable, with fewer weak spots than traditional net wrap, meaning they will stand up to more handling during transportation than older style round bale netwrap. It will help minimise any damage on the road, helping you maximise your return and reducing the need for patch-ups once the bales are on site.
